יִרְמְיָהוּ א
Yirmiyahu / Jeremiah 1
ד.
4.
וַיְהִי דְבַר-ה’, אֵלַי לֵאמֹר.
The word of the Lord came to me:
ה.
5.
בְּטֶרֶם אצורך (אֶצָּרְךָ) בַבֶּטֶן יְדַעְתִּיךָ,
Before I created you in the womb, I selected you;
וּבְטֶרֶם תֵּצֵא מֵרֶחֶם הִקְדַּשְׁתִּיךָ:
Before you were born, I consecrated you;
נָבִיא לַגּוֹיִם, נְתַתִּיךָ.
I appointed you a prophet concerning the nations.
ו.
6.
וָאֹמַר, אֲהָהּ אֲדֹנָי ה’, הִנֵּה לֹא-יָדַעְתִּי, דַּבֵּר:
I replied: ah, Lord God! I don’t know how to speak,
כִּי-נַעַר, אָנֹכִי.
For I am still a boy.
ז.
7.
וַיֹּאמֶר ה’ אֵלַי,
And the Lord said to me:
אַל-תֹּאמַר נַעַר אָנֹכִי:
Do not say, “I am still a boy,”
כִּי עַל-כָּל-אֲשֶׁר אֶשְׁלָחֲךָ, תֵּלֵךְ,
But go wherever I send you
וְאֵת כָּל-אֲשֶׁר אֲצַוְּךָ, תְּדַבֵּר.
and speak whatever I command you.

8.
אַל-תִּירָא, מִפְּנֵיהֶם:
Have no fear of them,
כִּי-אִתְּךָ אֲנִי לְהַצִּלֶךָ,
for I am with you to deliver you
נְאֻם-ה’.
—declares the Lord.
ט.
9.
וַיִּשְׁלַח ה’ אֶת-יָדוֹ, וַיַּגַּע עַל-פִּי;
The Lord put out His hand and touched my mouth,
וַיֹּאמֶר ה’ אֵלַי,
and the Lord said to me:
הִנֵּה נָתַתִּי דְבָרַי בְּפִיךָ.
Herewith I put My words into your mouth.
י.
10.
רְאֵה הִפְקַדְתִּיךָ הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה,
See, I appoint you this day
עַל-הַגּוֹיִם וְעַל-הַמַּמְלָכוֹת,
over nations and kingdoms;
לִנְתוֹשׁ וְלִנְתוֹץ,
To uproot and to pull down,
וּלְהַאֲבִיד וְלַהֲרוֹס–
To destroy and overthrow,
לִבְנוֹת, וְלִנְטוֹעַ.
To build and to plant.
