אֲפָפוּנִי מַיִם עַד-נֶפֶשׁ,
The waters closed in over me,
תְּהוֹם יְסֹבְבֵנִי;
the deep engulfed me.
סוּף, חָבוּשׁ לְרֹאשִׁי.
Weeds twined around my head.

לְקִצְבֵי הָרִים יָרַדְתִּי,
I sank to the base of the mountains,
הָאָרֶץ בְּרִחֶיהָ בַעֲדִי לְעוֹלָם;
the bars of the earth closed behind me forever.
וַתַּעַל מִשַּׁחַת חַיַּי,
Yet You brought my life up from the pit,
ה’ אֱלֹהָי.
O Lord my God.

בְּהִתְעַטֵּף עָלַי נַפְשִׁי, אֶת-ה’ זָכָרְתִּי…
When my life was ebbing away, I remembered God…
